The Mechanical Entanglement: the poetry of Stein, Freytag-Loringhoven, and Loy

This course will examine the incipient development of the post-human in the works of early 20th century writers Gertrude Stein,Mina Loy, and Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven. We will explore the intersection of the rapid industrialization of the 1910s and 20s,the subsequent remapping of the body by these cubist, futurist, and dada writers, and the advanced rethinking of the human by modern theorists such as Rosi Braidotti, Donna Haraway, and Jonathan Crary.
