Welcome to English

Acadia’s English program offers more than 60 full- and half-year courses taught by specialists in various literary fields. Our introductory classes introduce students to a variety of novels, plays, poems, and essays while providing them with strategies for developing a clear and persuasive writing style. Upper-year students pursue their interests and broaden their experience of literature and culture in courses covering a range of periods, authors, genres, cultures, and critical approaches. We also offer several creative writing courses, and we are one of the only programs in Canada that gives undergraduate students the opportunity to write a creative thesis.

There are many ways to get involved in the life of the Department, including attending regular readings and lectures, joining the writing teams for our publications, or volunteer teaching at a local school. Click on the tabs at the left to explore what we have to offer.
