BA with Honours in English

The Honours program is designed for students with a special interest in English. Those who plan to pursue careers in teaching, writing, or publishing, as well as those who intend to go on to graduate studies, will find the Honours program particularly valuable.

Honours in English is attained through either a thesis-based or a course-based program of study. Regardless of which route a student chooses, the requirements of the Arts Core and a 24-hour Minor must be met.

Thesis-based Honours (60h)
  • The English Core
  • 3h from ENGL 3073 - Theory, or WGST 3023 - Feminist Theory
  • ENGL 4060 - Scholarly Methods
  • ENGL-407T Honours Thesis 1 (3 Credits)
  • ENGL-408T Honours Thesis 2 (3 Credits)
  • 21h of English Electives at the 2000/3000/4000 level, including 6 hours at 4000 level (exclusive of ENGL 4060 & 407T/408T)
Course-based Honours (60h)
  • The English Core
  • 3h from ENGL 3073 - Theory, or WGST 3023 - Feminist Theory
  • ENGL 4060 - Scholarly Methods
  • 27h of English at the 2000/3000/4000 level, including 12 hours at 4000 level (exclusive of ENGL 4060)
