Postcolonial Lit 4: South Asian Literature

This course introduces students to contemporary South Asian literature written in English.  Focusing on literature from India and the subcontinent, the course encourages students to recognize how South Asian writers explore issues of political and cultural autonomy through literature.  Students will study works from writers as diverse as R.K. Narayan, Salman Rushdie, Nissim Ezekiel, Arundati Roy, and Jean Arasanayagam.  Prerequisite:  ENGL 1406 (ENGL 1413/ENGL 1423) with a minimum grade of C-.
