Qualifying Year
All students interested in pursuing an MA in English at Acadia should officially apply. When a student does not meet the minimum graduate admission requirements, a qualifying year may be proposed. The purpose of a qualifying year is to ensure a student is prepared to complete the MA in English at Acadia. The basis of a qualifying year will be determined from the material submitted in the application and through further conversations with the applicant as needed. A qualifying year may be taken to fill in gaps in the student’s academic background, including the breadth of courses taken in English at the undergraduate level (time period, genre, and theoretical approach should be considered) and the student’s experience writing research essays and delivering seminar presentations (level of courses should be considered). Students must reapply to the MA program to be admitted.

Funding
We offer a limited number of entrance Acadia Graduate Awards valued at $9,450 to qualifying students. To be considered for this funding, you need to apply for admission to the MA program no later than February 1st. In addition, the English Department offers four other fellowships and scholarships to complement the Graduate Award.
