Dr. Kevin Whetter Awarded SSHRC Grant

Kevin Whetter was awarded a SSHRC Small Institution Grant for work on a new Classroom Edition of Sir Thomas Malory’s fifteenth-century Le Morte Darthur [sic]. Despite the Morte’s popularity and influence, all teaching editions assume that students have more familiarity with Malory’s Middle English than is common in the twenty-first century. This new edition, undertaken for Broadview Press, will be complete, in Middle English, and based on the Winchester manuscript – but unlike most modern editions, will be heavily glossed to assist students with limited experience reading Middle English texts. The SIG allows Whetter to hire former Acadia English Honours student and current Groningen medieval PhD candidate Margaret Finlay to help with the glossing, making the Morte more accessible to modern students.
