Education: BA (Western), MA (McGill)
Research Interests: Contemporary Anglo-American literature, book reviews, criticism, literary magazines, the novel.
Teaching: In my classrooms I combine a range of pedagogical approaches, from literary history to close reading to workshop-style writing tutorials. Though I primarily teach lecture-based courses I tend to emphasize active student participation through discussion of our course texts. Part of my goal as a teacher is to hone my students' observational skills: we spend much of our time in the classroom collaboratively unpacking the form, syntax, and diction of individual passages. Careful reading is the precursor to strong academic writing.
Publications: I review books and write criticism for print and online publications in the public sphere, including the Los Angeles Review of Books and the Literary Review of Canada.
Courses: ENGL1413: Reading and Writing Critically
