Playing With War: Unconventional Representations of Conflict in Digital Games

There are many video games that idealize war both conceptually and historically.  However, instead of focusing on more popular examples of persuasive war games that glorify wartime conflict and play like 1980’s action movies, this talk will explore a few alternative games that ask difficult questions about war.  These games offer a playful resistance to reductive and romantic stereotypes about war, prompting us to broaden our perspective and to ultimately ask why there are so many games about war and so few about peace.
